The joys of journaling
My 2 boys are doing Bob Jones Spelling. The program itself isn't anything super special. It's just a regular workbook with spelling words. I've used several different things for spelling and for whatever reason this seems to work the best for us.
Every Thursday the kids are supposed to write in their journal. The topic is in their spelling book and it varies widely. In the teachers manual it said to have the child write their journal entry as a letter to mom or dad. After the child writes the journal entry, mom or dad is supposed to read it, then write the child back. Last year my boys started writing to me. When dh heard what we were doing, he asked if I'd have the boys write to him. Now my JP supports our homeschooling 100%, but he's very busy and isn't very involved in it. So I was happy to have the kids write to him instead. They have had so much fun writing back and forth to each other. Sometimes I take a peek in the boys journals, and I was touched to read this entry from Blake.
"Dear Dad, If I could be like someone it would be you. You are smart. You work hard. You help us and you love us. I love you so much. Love Blake."
Isn't that so sweet? I love having this record of Bryce and Blake's thoughts and dreams. It's priceless.
