Crazy Winter Storms

I know what you are thinking, "boo hoo winter in San Diego"! No really, we have had the craziest rounds of winter storms that I've seen in a long time! It started on Monday with blasting wind, and ferocious rain. By 10:00 am 1 panel of our back fence was snapped off at the post, and my neighbor with a rain gauge said we already had had 1.5 inches of rain. A few more hours went by and another section of fence was loose and swaying in the wind. Blake helped me tie it up (with his bungee cords, LOL), and it managed to survive without falling down, although it now needs to be replaced too, boo!

You can't really see how bad it is, thanks to Blake's awesome bungee cords!

Tuesday came and dumped more rain on us. When there was a break in the rain, the kids ran outside to splash in the 4 inches of standing water in the backyard. It was windy and sooo cold outside, but they were dying to go outside.Wednesday was light, and we got minimal rain. The backyard "pool" soaked into the grass and the standing water was finally gone.

Thursday the rain pelted us again. By early afternoon we noticed that the branches on the tree in our backyard were leaning down very far. It was raining so hard, that we couldn't go out to check them until later in afternoon. I thought the branches had either snapped off the trunk or were so soaked with water that they were hanging low. When we were able to go out and check the tree it looked fine, and like the branches were just heavy with water. But by dinner time, the tree succumbed to the over saturated ground, heavy limbs, and wind. Praise God it came down slowly. If it had crashed down in one big gust of wind, it would have taken out our patio and dining room. I'm so sad! That tree was my favorite, it shaded the kids fort, and half of our yard in the summer time.

Can you see the huge tree leaning to the left? Timber, LOL!

I heard you all were having rain, but had no idea it was that bad. Wow! So glad you are getting it - maybe that will end the water rationing! yahoo. K
