Let the wild rumpus begin!

"Where The Wild Things Are", is one of my favorite childrens books. I can tell you where the wild rumpus is, it's at my house! We made it thru the first week of school, but just barely. Of course we had to find our dream house 1 week before school started, right? So among regular school busness, last week was filled with appointments, phone calls etc... Just when we'd settle down to start woking the phone would ring!!

But back to the wild rumpus, -school-. That dreaded thing that all children age 5-17 have to do. My kids want to know who the person was who made it a law that kids have to do school. I told them I was sure that person was dead, LOL. But they still weren't happy. They'd love nothing more than to play legos, swim and jump on the furniture (not that I let them do that or anything) all day long.

So we started school on Tueday the 2nd. The first order of buisness is always cleaning out the pencil boxes, and sorting out the new school supplies. After that, we went on our annual trip to the donut shop. I mean we have to start the first day of school with a sugar high right?? ha! So after the donuts, we came back home and worked for about 2 hours. We did a pretty light week, and I think the kids were relieved.

This year I'm still using my KISS method for school (keep it simple stupid). I spent so many years knocking myself out doing crazy unit studies and history/science stuff. Don't get me wrong, it was really fun. But I decided that it better for all of us, to do a basic program of school work without the extra fluff, and go play all afternoon (meaning go to the beach, the park, hiking etc..) The play all afternoon part has been harder with Mason, he likes to nap (imagine that!).
We had tons of free time together last year just by cutting out the projects and such. I sort of miss the projects, but the time we spent made up for it. They made their own projects with their free time ;-)

Today, Blake told me that he loved school, but he just didn't want to admit it. ;-P
