2 Steps Forward, 1 Step Back
Work on the house is moving along, slowly but surely. We've had a bit of excitement, some very good and some very bad. So the really exciting good news is that we found a secret room! One night, JP and his 2 friends were working on running a gas line to the kitchen for a gas range. They cut a hole in the closet in Blake's room, thinking that there was probably a small crawl space behind it that they could use the run the line. Not only was there a crawl space, but a small room! It's about 6 feet, by 8 feet with a slanted roof. Blake and Marlie can stand up in it, but the rest of us can't. It's paneled in really old pressed fiber board. They even found a really old pillow in there! The dads were totally freaked out at first, they weren't sure what they'd find in the room. The kids were so excited, it's a pretty cool space. Today Jim ran a light, an exhaust fan, and some other kind of fan. Hopefully the fans will be enough to cool the "Ann Frank" room off enough so it can be a fun place to play. Here's a picture of the room, from the hole in Blake's closet. There are 2 other doors in the secret room, that lead to the crawl spaces the guys were looking for. We will lock those, so no one can go in them.
My kitchen cabinets came in last week! We were so thrilled to get the phone call telling us they were being shipped out. We were not thrilled when they DROPPED the pantry cabinet on it's corner and broke it :-( This is our family room, the only place big enough to put all of the cabinets until they will be installed next week (all but the pantry anyway). JP's been working hi fanny off installing ceiling fans and lights in every room. It's been quite a job considering he had to run all of the wiring too. We ran into a huge problem finding ceiling fans with standard size bulbs. Apparently they don't make fans with standard bulbs anymore. They only make them with candelabra bulbs or intermediate bulbs (which are practically impossible to find). Anyway his solution was to take the light kits off all 5 ceiling fans and replace the small sockets with larger ones. It's a really tedious job, but it will be worth it when it's done.
Today we (my Mom, my Grandma, Chris and I) finished painting the Master bedroom. It's a really pretty blue with a brown accent wall. I love the way it turned out!!
Can you see that the ugly cabinet from over the toilet is gone? It makes the bathroom look so much bigger with it gone!
We also worked on painting Blake's room today. He really wanted to help, and actually did a pretty good job painting.
The kitchen is all ready for the cabinet install next Thursday. We just need to paint it yellow. JP and Jim did a great job on the drywall repair. Barry ran me a gas line Whoo hoo!!

They are supposed to be working on school work. But when you leave 4 kids alone in a room and tell them to "get to work" they don't always work very *hard*. Where *is* Marlie anyway???

Jim finished my hallway closet door. It just needs to be textured and painted.
The view from the top of the stairs. JP and Jim finished the ceiling and installed the fan. They painted the room and ceiling, and the next day moved our things out of storage. I never even got to see the room all done, clean and empty before the filled it up again. Oh well!
